This policy explains what personal data Stacklayer Communications Ltd ("we", "us") collects when you visit this website, create an account or use our services, what we do with it, and what rights you have. We are the controller of that data under UK data protection law.
Who we are
Stacklayer Communications Ltd provides hosting and network services under the StackLayer name. If you have a question about your personal data, email privacy@stacklayer.host or submit a support ticket through our client area.
What we collect
- Account details. Your name, company name, email address, postal address and phone number.
- Billing details. Your invoices, what you have paid and when, and payment references. Card payments are handled by our payment providers, who pass us a reference rather than your full card details.
- Service details. The services and domains you order, the IP addresses assigned to them, and technical details needed to run them.
- Support records. Tickets, emails and notes about them.
- Technical data. Your IP address, browser and device details, and login records when you use the client area. We use these to run the site and keep accounts secure.
- Network data. To operate and protect our network we process technical data about traffic, such as IP addresses and traffic volumes. This is not the content of your communications.
- Website data. Our web server keeps standard logs of requests when you visit this website.
- Analytics data, only if you accept: the pages you view, how you arrived, your approximate location, and your browser and device type, collected by Google Analytics.
Most of this comes from you directly. Some is created when you use our services, and some comes from payment providers and fraud-prevention services.
How and why we use it
We use personal data to:
- set up, run and bill for your services, because we need to in order to perform our contract with you
- answer your questions and give support, for the same reason
- keep our network, systems and customers secure, and prevent fraud and abuse, because we have a legitimate interest in doing so
- check orders for fraud, which may involve automated checks
- keep records that the law requires, such as tax and accounting records, because we are legally required to
- send you notices about your services, such as renewals, invoices and maintenance
- send marketing, but only if you have agreed or the law otherwise allows it. Every marketing message includes a way to stop receiving them
If an order is stopped by an automated fraud check and you think that was a mistake, contact us and a person will review it.
Who we share it with
We share personal data only where we need to, with:
- payment providers and fraud-prevention services
- domain registries and registrars, if you register a domain
- the companies that supply software and infrastructure we use to run our services and support
- professional advisers such as accountants and lawyers
- the police, regulators and other authorities, where the law requires or allows it
- another company, if we sell or merge our business, which would then use the data as described here
We do not sell your personal data.
Transfers outside the UK
Some of the companies we use may handle data outside the UK. Where that happens, we make sure there is a lawful basis for the transfer, such as an adequacy decision or approved contract terms.
This website can show our typeface using Google Fonts, but only if you accept on the privacy banner. If you do, your browser connects to Google’s servers and Google receives your IP address. If you decline, we use the standard fonts on your device and nothing is sent to Google. We remember your choice in your browser’s local storage, which is not a cookie, so we do not ask you again on every visit. You can change it at any time with “Privacy choices” in the footer.
If you accept analytics, data about your visit is sent to Google, whose servers may be outside the UK. We use it only to understand how the website is used and to improve it. You can withdraw your consent at any time with “Privacy choices” in the footer.
How long we keep it
We keep personal data only for as long as we need it for the reasons above. In particular, we keep account and billing records for as long as the law requires after an account closes. Support records and technical logs are kept for as long as they are useful for running and securing the service, and then deleted.
Security
We take steps to protect personal data from loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including limiting who can see it. No system is completely secure, so please keep your own account details safe and use a strong, unique password.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- ask us to correct data that is wrong or incomplete
- ask us to delete your data, in some circumstances
- ask us to restrict how we use your data, in some circumstances
- object to our use of your data where we rely on our legitimate interests
- receive the data you gave us in a format you can move to another provider, where this applies
- withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on it
- object to direct marketing at any time
To use any of these rights, email privacy@stacklayer.host or submit a support ticket through our client area. We may need to confirm who you are first. We will reply within one month. Some rights are limited by law, for example where we must keep records, and we will explain if that applies.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, tell us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Cookies
See our Cookie Policy for how cookies are used on this website and in the client area.
Children
Our services are not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data about them. If you think a child has given us their data, contact us and we will delete it.

We may update this policy. The version on this page is the current one, and we will tell you about changes that matter.
